Plastic Recycling

Plastic Waste Collection

The UK government remains dedicated to reducing plastic waste. However, when it comes to complete or comprehensive plastic collection of a wide range of plastic materials, business owners still need to rely on the services of expert waste management companies.

Business plastic waste and recycling are mainly handled separately from domestic options. Many businesses rely on waste management professionals who assist in sorting, collecting, and disposing of all types of business waste - and this usually includes recycled plastic.

Plastic Waste Disposal

Plastic waste disposal, and indeed, plastic waste recycling, involves the proper processes of collecting and sorting out different types of plastic waste. Again, because there are different types of plastic waste, it is essential for business owners to ensure that they separate each type to make for effective disposal and recycling. Materials Recovery can help and advise on appropriate solutions including baling and compacting your plastic waste.

Different Types of Plastic

Plastic materials are available in several different types (over 50 types). However, you can categorise them into seven main types requiring different recycling processes. The main categories include the following:

  • (1. PET) Polyethylene Terephthalate: PET plastic materials are one of the most commonly recycled materials. You can use them primarily for bottling beverages, water, etc. They also make great products like household items, including ropes, clothes, carpet fibre, etc.

  • (2. HDPE) High-Density Polyethylene: HDPE materials are used mainly to produce bottles for motor oils, milk, and different types of detergents and cleaning products, including bleach. This type of plastic is also mostly recycled.

  • (3. PVC) Polyvinyl Chloride: PVC plastic materials are usually dense and extremely tough materials. That makes them ideal for a wide range of products, including the tiles and pipes commonly used for plumbing works. These types of plastic materials can sometimes be recycled.

  • (4. LDPE) Low-Density Polyethylene: This plastic-type combines malleability, durability, and flexibility. As a result, they are used mainly for products like shopping bags. They are also sometimes recycled.

  • (5. PP) Polypropylene: These are primarily recycled materials and are used to make bottle lids and mostly thicker plastic products.

  • (6. PS) Polystyrene: Plastic materials that fall under this category are mainly challenging to recycle. They are mainly used for packaging things like coffee cups as well as packaging.

  • (7. Other) Code 7: other plastic materials that do not fall under the categories listed above are usually described as Code 7. They also include Polylactide (PLA) and Polycarbonate (PV) and are usually tougher to recycle.

Plastic Recycling

Plastic recycling is the best and most effective way of disposing of plastic waste mainly because of the plastic material’s non-biodegradable nature. Because the material does not decompose naturally over time, recycling has become the popular choice of disposal. However, technicians are beginning to look for better ways of improving this or providing different alternatives.

Plastic recycling companies in the UK offer various ways to recycle plastic, depending on the material category, including heat compression.

Plastic Packaging Tax April 1st, 2022

Plastic packaging manufacturers or importers, as well as plastic packaging importers of containers already including goods, will need to take steps to prepare for the new tax. The charge for each metric tonne of plastic packaging will be £200.

The Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) is an environmental tax that will be implemented in the United Kingdom on the 1st of April 2022 to provide a financial incentive for businesses to use recycled plastic in the production of plastic packaging. This is intended to stimulate greater levels of recycling of plastic waste and divert it away from landfills or incineration.

Plastic Recycling Solutions

Plastic waste contributes to the degradation of the natural environment. While the UK government focuses on combating plastic waste by helping reduce the number of plastic bottles in the environment, businesses have needed to resort to waste management professionals capable of sorting, removing, and disposing of plastic waste.

Today, the drive towards zero-landfill has become a critical business objective for most business owners. Additionally, working towards this objective always puts a business in the good books of environmentally-conscious customers.

What is Plastic Waste?

Most businesses worldwide use different types of plastic products during one stage of their production process or another. Unfortunately, the poor management of plastic materials has led to a state of plastic waste, which has become a massive concern for people, businesses, and organisations in the UK and beyond.

Plastic waste is waste or pollution caused as a result of poor and improper management of plastic materials. That is the accumulation of plastic objects on the earth’s environment that negatively affects humans, wildlife, and wildlife environment.

Plastic Waste Management

Plastic waste management involves all the processes required to properly manage different kinds of plastic waste, from plastic collection to proper plastic waste disposal and recycling.

With different types of plastic waste products currently available in the system, plastic waste management also involves the ability to properly sort out plastic waste to make for efficient storage, plastic recycling collection, disposal, and recycling. Because plastic is generally non-biodegradable, sustainably disposing of them has posed many challenges, especially for business. That is where plastic waste management and plastic recycling companies step in.

Sustainable Solutions for Your Plastic Waste

As the world becomes increasingly more aware of the negative environmental impacts of plastic waste, companies are searching for sustainable solutions for managing this material. A great solution is to recycle plastic waste into new products. However, even recycling has its own environmental impacts, so it is important to seek out ways to recycle plastic that do not harm the planet. At Materials Recovery, we are committed to sustainable plastic recycling, as reducing our environmental impact is our priority.

  • What plastics cannot be recycled?

Bioplastics, composite plastic, paper-covered wrapping paper, and polycarbonate are just a few examples of non-recyclable plastics. Cling film and blister packaging are two well-known non-recyclable materials.

  • What are some of the benefits of recycling plastic?

Recycling plastic helps reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills and oceans, and it helps conserve energy and resources. It also creates jobs in the recycling industry.

  • What happens to recycled plastics?

Once they have been collected, most plastics are sorted by hand, then shredded into flakes or pellets before being exported to be manufactured into new products. Some are recycled into compost bins or road-building materials. Many household plastics are made from petroleum that comes from overseas, so don't just throw them in landfill.
